Thanksgiving Party--Join Me!

From The Romance Studio (with notations from yours truly):

We're celebrating the American Thanksgiving holiday with our yearly Thanksgiving Party! We're giving away an Amazon gift ecard (electronic gift card only, value $100) to one lucky reader and we're giving away a lot of other prizes from the TRS prize vault and from me as well. This party is going to be HUGE! Come join us!

Where is it going to be held?

The event will be held exclusively at our party site.

When is it going to be held?

From November 25th through Midnight EST November 29, 2015.

When will the prizes be given out?

The winner of the gift card will be selected at random on November 30th. Other prizes from TRS, from me, and from other authors, will be assigned at each donor's earliest convenience following the end of the event.

Okay so HOW do I enter for the gift card?

I will be posting during the event period at our party site about my books and other related items. Comment on any of the posts at any time during the event (should be at least acceptable/polite comments because comments in poor taste may result in exclusion from the event) AND complete the entry form at the party site for the gift card giveaway and you will be entered into the drawing for the gift card.

How do I enter for the other prizes?

For other prizes donated by TRS, some of its featured authors and other participating authors (like me!), there will be easy to use giveaway forms at the party site. Other authors will be awarding prizes to those who comment on their posts. There may be other contests/chance to win prizes as outlined by the individual author or participant.

Be sure to join us for this party!

Details from my end--I will be giving away a $10 GC to Amazon.com. Be sure to comment and complete the entry form to have a chance to be chosen. I will announce the winner within the first week of December. I hope to see you there!

#ScintillatingSunday Meets a Djinn

Welcome to today's #ScintillatingSunday blog hop. Make sure to enjoy all that the authors are offering--links are at the bottom of this post.

Today I bring you Rebecca, a centuries old Djinn who finds herself in the unenviable position of having a cruel and heartless master. There are two men, however, who've caught her eye. They remind her of master's she'd had ages ago, but they are off limits to her unless her current master releases her--which she believes could never happen.

As a Djinn, however, she works well with loopholes. In the 8 paragraphs below, she's taken the prerogative of her master's order to shift it to one of the men she wants. But will it work?

#Excerpt from To Free a Djinn by Ayla Ruse

“Just do it, " Rebecca urged. "Say ‘my means Nico’s’.”

“My means Nico’s?”

“Thank Allah,” she said on a sigh and eased away from the door. Braden had been right. If her master did not give her specific commands, she could interpret them as she wished. Braden had indeed left her a loophole by not repeating his own name in his command.

She approached Nico in slow, measured steps, letting her hips sway seductively. He seemed unmoved as he stood his ground and crossed his arms, tilting his head when she looked up into his clear, blue eyes. His pose screamed uninterested, but his tight swallow gave away his desire.

She licked her lips, grinned, and dropped to her knees. As soon as she set her hands to the front of his jeans, framing his hard erection, he stepped back.

“No, Rebecca,” Nico said, closing his hands around her wrists.

“Oh, but I have to,” she said. “I have been commanded to give a blowjob. Braden was vague on the recipient.”

"Are you his sub? His slave? The questions sounded like a mix between hope and disgust. Interesting. She wondered how he felt about the two.

To Free A Djinn

Rebecca, a fiery, beautiful djinn, quietly assists her magician master, hating every moment they’re together. His command over her is growing and she finds herself desperate to get away.
Nico and Justin, magicians sharing the stage with Rebecca’s master, want to help her escape. Once they become involved, however, they discover magic is not the only environment where illusions deceive. Nico and Justin want Rebecca for themselves, but what will it take to gain her submission when she’s vowed to never be bound to another?

What?? Take a break??

This is always running through my head. ALWAYS. Between running errands, keeping house, taking care of six peoples, animals, events, finances, entertainments, pencils, paper, ink, and yeah, you know the story. It goes on and on and on...

I, like you I'm sure, push myself to my limits and beyond. There comes a time when all my pushing backfires.

Take yesterday, for example. I knew a crash was eminent when, while reading Harry Potter to my youngest, I had a "blackout." Here I am, reading out loud, and two pages later I don't remember a single word I'd read. Not one word! I glance at youngest and he's still listening aptly, so I take it that I didn't digress into some kind of other-world. But still--reading freakin' aloud and not knowing what I'm reading? For shame!

After tucking everyone in bed last night I sat down at my trusty computer to knock out a couple thousand words on my NaNo story. I *must* do this, I tell myself. It doesn't matter that my eyes are bleary and my mind is wandering. I must!

I sit in front of the screen. I check a few social media outlets. Update a few. I stare at my story again. I know what I want to write, but my fingers won't seem to work and my mind skitters off topic like when your tires hit a huge rain puddle and your car skids off to the side. Yeah, I mean it to sound that drastic because that's how I felt.

So I decide a short nap is in order. Yes, it's somewhere between 10 and 11 pm. I think. A fifteen minute nap will work wonders. THEN I'll be able to write.

Well, I'm sure you know what happened next. I crashed. Hard. My mind and my body worked together to lamblast me into sweet oblivion until I blinked my eyes away to the dawn of this morning.

At first, curses filled my head. I didn't get my 2K in last night. What to do? I couldn't start writing right away, nor could I write--nor do I write--during my hectic, busy day. It's taken me most of the day to come to terms with this and tell myself that, you know, it's truly okay. My body obviously knew what was best for me better than I did. I may say sleep is overrated, but there's no denying it's pretty damned important.

So I've had another hectic day, but I feel better. I've realigned my thoughts and know exactly where I plan to begin tonight with my words. Am I doubling up? Probably not. I'll squeeze in extra words along the way, I'm sure. It's still early on in the month.

So if you're behind or haven't started or just know there's no time!! Don't stress. It won't always be like that. Some days will be better and some not so great. Roll with the punches, as that famous saying goes. Roll with it. Then sleep. SLEEP, darn you! And try, try again!

Day 1 of NaNo in the bag!

This month, among everything else, I'm eagerly participating in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short).

You'll notice to the right, in the sidebar, I'll keep you updated with my progress. I'm thrilled with today's word count. The goal of NaNo is to finish 50,000 words between today and November 30. My goal is to go over that 50K. I'm shooting for 75 to 100K. Yes, full length novel here.

It's totally different for me, the full novel, but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time now. My longest story to date is just under 40K. Short stories have been my thing for the past four years, and although I'm not giving up on the short story, my heart longs for a meatier book.

Another way this one is different is that it won't be erotic. It'll be romance. Yes, there will be sex, but it'll fall into the suspense/thriller category of romance.

So it is with great excitement I share this news with you, before heading off to bed. I've put in a full day, I met my word count (I wanted to get 2K today), wrote the rough draft of the prologue, and now it's time to brainstorm tomorrow's opening chapter.

Until next time,
Ayla
