Works in Progress

Okay, on a short update: I am busy writing. Not as hot and heavy as I'd like to be, but I'm gettin' there.

At present I've been working on two very little, very hot and short snippets that will eventually become available for your pleasure. These will be FREE READS, and once I know more, I'll be sure to let you know about them and where to read them.

Also I want to let you know of my next release. December 17. Yep, just in time to treat yourself to a great little Christmas treat. For three weeks in December, Changeling Press will have for sale their annual short Christmas stories. Mine is entitled Emmy's Wish, and it's about one of Santa's little workshop elves who wishes for a Christmas gift that is a little, shall we say, bigger. Keep checking back and I'll be sure to let you know more as the days approach.

Finally, don't forget to drop by Changeling before the end of October. All you have to do is make a simple little purchase and you will automatically be entered into their Halloween contest! Check the bottom of their home page for the discount code as well. Super Sweet Treats for you!

Be safe this weekend, and try to stay warm. My advice: snuggle up with someone very hot. :-D

Eye Poppin'

I recently came across a fabulous little blog on this oh so spacious world wide web. Run by Heidi Cullinan and Marie Sexton, it's entitled Coffee and Porn in the Morning/wine and sex in the afternoon. Love it. It's short, sweet, and so much pleasure for the eyes. But be forewarned, it's definitely, definitely in the 18+ category. Drop by, tell 'em hi, and enjoy your morning cup of coffee with them.

The Good Ol' Days or the Good New Days?

There are times I think it'd be cool to live in times gone by. I mean, a century or more past. Those times where you had to live off the land, bathe in water pulled from the streams, go to the general store once a month for supplies. No cars, no telephones, no computers.

What!? I can hear you exclaim way over here. :)

This past weekend I went camping with my family at a huge scouting event. It wasn't completely primitive: we did have working bathrooms and our leader is the consummate cook and provided all our meals. Yes, that does spoil a person. Still, we had to walk everywhere, and there were no phones to contact each other. We had our base - our tent site - and if we split up, we knew to meet back there. We had campfires and told stories and snuggled together as the temps dipped into the lower 30's at night. We do this routine a few times a year at least, and I admit, I look forward to them.

As a kid, I hated - I mean HATED - the outdoors. Even going for something as simple as a walk would send me into tears. How times change. With four males in the household, there is no way I'd survive if I didn't like the outdoors. Walking, hiking, biking, camping, you name it. If it's out-of-doors, we're into it. Yes, now, even me.

During the times, like this past weekend, where we do camp out, I can feel the adjusted change in me. The first night/day can often be uncomfortable. Getting used to only being outdoors. Not having the computer to turn to or the TV to turn on or an iPod to plug in. Not to mention all the other appliances and technology you do without. By the second day, I'm more used to the "withouts," and even though I think, it'd be nice to have them, I can feel myself already start to get past them. By the third day, I'm thinking that it's kinda nice where we are, and that I wouldn't mind living out "here." I think hard on all the stories - fiction and fact - about time before technology and I get invigorated. A challenge. I know I could make it. It'd be hard at first, really hard. But I know I could adjust and that I'd love it in my own way. As would my family.

Then the trip is over and we're coming home. First things first. Hot showers for everyone. Freshly perked coffee. Put the kids in front of the tv or games so I can sort through the belongings. Washing clothes. I find myself ever grateful for modern technology. I admit to myself that even though I know I could survive, somewhat happily, in the centuries past, I am happy to be here now. I like my technology. I like having hot running water and toilets that flush and washing machines and stoves and refrigerators. A car is handy and the computer is practically a necessity.

The point that came to me, out of all of this, is comfort in knowing my place is here. Comfort, too, in knowing that if I had to live without, I could - and would - but that I'd rather not. :)   It's nice sometimes, to know where you are in the great scheme of things. How about you? Where do you find your comfort level? Let me know and have the best of  days.

How bad do you want it?

While you're reading this, I'm lost in the wilds on a camping trip for the weekend. In the meantime I've not left you high and dry. In fact, I've left some words of, I hope, inspiration with a shot of kick-in-the-ass on my monthly visit to Total E-Bound's Hitting the Hot Spot today.

Come on over and hear my version of wanting to write, then finally deciding TO write.

Oh, and have a blissfully happy Saturday!

**Jagged is For Sale Today**

Hello Big Wide World!

Today is a day filled with excitement. My latest story, Malathix Soul: Jagged, is now available for your pleasure to purchase from Changeling Press! How awesome is this?! Pretty great.

Jagged is the third tale in my Malathix Soul Series. If you've just found out, let me tell you a little more.

First, the Soul stories are short, futuristic erotic tales. Don't have a lot of time or a lot of money? Then skipping over to Changeling is a MUST! You will not be disappointed. :D

Second, you don't have to read the stories in order. That's always a plus in my book. Each Soul story is a stand alone, only sharing a similar theme. The theme is that in the distant future (circa 2142), Earth is intergalactic. New to alien life, but familiar enough that different aliens are stopping by Earth to check out its benefits.

One such race, the human-form Malathix, came to Earth a couple of years before and through a series of uncontrollable events, crash landed on our planet, leaving the aliens without a way home and without an intergral part of their very beings.

Now, these mouth-watering aliens travel our world, seeking that special human who holds a piece of themselves to make them whole again, and to prevent an ultimate destruction of human kind.

In Jagged, we meet Camden Royst and Deidre Parker. They have already met and bonded, but discover being together is not what either expected. Below is the blurb and a short excerpt from the story. To purchase this or any of the other Malathix Souls books, CLICK HERE to go to the Changeling Press web site, my author site.

Malathix Soul: Jagged

BLURB

Is it possible to repair two damaged hearts?

Camden Royst lives by a code of honesty and logic. When he bonds with his human, it's without the emotional upheavals his crewmates suffer. But instead of making his life easier, everything falls to pieces. His female isn't happy, and for the life of him he can't understand why.

Deidre Parker always dreamed of being swept off her feet by a tall, handsome alien. When Camden walks into her life, she thinks he's her dream come true. Except he won't open up to her, and he picks and chooses what parts of his life she can see. Frustrated, she knows she can't live with a half-sided arrangement. Even if her heart's breaking without him.

Camden and Deidre finally decide to lay all their cards on the table, but when all is said and done, will what they reveal be enough to repair their damaged hearts, or will it leave them separate, with jagged ends?

Excerpt:

The ensuing silence pricked at Deidre until she gave up the struggle she’d wrestled with since the moment she’d realized he was in her bed. She asked, “Why are you here?”

“I… missed you.”

She might have believed him if he hadn’t hesitated. As it was, she heard through his flat, almost questioning tone. He’d lied. If he’d truly missed her, he’d have come for her long before now.

His soul, fused within every part of her body, shifted inside her and defended him, even as her own thoughts hardened.

“Really, Camden?”

He didn’t answer.

She squeezed her eyes shut, pushed down the hurt, and embraced the simmering anger. “Now tell me the truth. Why are you here? What do you need?”

Another long silence passed before Camden got up and made his way to her bathroom. Deidre thumped her hands on the bed, once. She shouldn’t be surprised at this retreat. After all, wasn’t this what he’d done to her only six months before?

Going to the extra bathroom to shower, she argued with his soul. Even though his soul had no real voice, it sure as hell could do a number on her mental state, flooding her mind with images to vent its opinion.

Right now, his soul was kicking her ass for not falling all gooey-eyed over seeing Camden again.

“Listen, you,” Deidre scolded under her breath. “I already let him fuck me, okay? As long as I remember he only wants sex, and maybe whatever my job as an astronomer can bring him, I’ll be okay. No. Don’t go throwing those pictures to me of a lonely Camden. Everybody has moments they stare into space. Doesn’t mean he’s lonely. Besides, if I’m the answer to his loneliness, you’d think he’d tell me, wouldn’t you?”

When his soul replayed Camden’s recent declaration of missing her, she scoffed, loudly. “Yeah, you’d want to take his side.”

…..

Camden scolded himself, pissed as hell he couldn’t seem to say anything right around Deidre. He’d been sincere when he’d told her he’d missed her. Missed her so much it hurt, but she didn’t believe him, and he was clueless as to how to make her see his sincerity.

He turned his face into the shower spray and let the water pour over his closed lids. He didn’t know what to do. She was harder than a Malathix rock to break, and for the second time in his life, he wondered if he wasn’t cut out to be in a relationship. Seeing his captain, Theradon, and his soul bearer, Laya, then Thorn with his soul bearer, Yvette, made Camden crave more. He envied those close relationships. How easily each couple moved together and how affectionate they were with one another. He’d even noticed it with other crewmembers who’d found their soul bearers.

Shit.

He locked his arms against the wall in front of him, dipped his head and let the warm water beat on the back of his neck. He’d never wanted to be involved with anyone. Then he’d met Deidre. Looking back, he knew bonding with her had saved his life, but he would want her anyway, life or death notwithstanding.

With a short grumble, he pushed away from the tile, turned off the water and quickly toweled dry. Stalking into the bedroom, he wasn’t surprised to find it empty. His sensitive hearing picked up the second shower turning off, so he pulled on his jeans and tossed his towel into her hamper. Hands low on his hips, he paced the room, increasingly irritated at how much he wanted her, how easily she turned her back on him and how fucking hard it was to keep himself in control of his beast. They were bonded, damn it. That should have given him a greater measure of control. It used to, but not lately.

He heard her before he saw her. He’d decided he’d had enough of their avoidance games. He knew she wanted more from him, but he had nothing else he was willing to share. There was no choice. She’d have to take him as he was. It was as simple as that.

*New Cover*

New covers are always exciting. What does the hero/heroine look like? What's the font for the title? How is your own name showcased? It's really a "ta-da!" moment. Plus, getting your cover means your book is that much closer to release!

The cover you see in this post is for my third Malathix Soul story: Jagged. If you've been reading the series, you've already met Camden Royst from his appearance in book 1, Soulless. If you haven't read the others, no worries. Each of the Malathix Soul books are stand-alone stories.

Jagged will be available for sale in less than two weeks from Changeling Press. Mark the date down now, Friday, October 14, 2011. Take a look below at the blurb for Jagged. Excerpt will be posted soon.
