It's a special day and you're invited to the party!

Welcome and Hello!

Today is an exciting day for me in so many ways. The best is that it's my birthday! Yes, I am another (gasp) year older, but I want to celebrate. I think, now that I'm halfway through the 40 years, I've come to terms with my age. It has been several years since I've truly wanted to celebrate, I'll be honest. But this year, I want to shout and sing and dance and share it all with you. Let me tell you more...

For the past couple of days, and a couple of days yet to come, I've been over at the TRS Party Site participating in their Christmas Party. I've been posting recipes and excerpts and links to free reads--all sorts of exciting fun.

Today, however, is extra special.

See, for coming to the party alone and entering the TRS contest form, you can opt in for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate from me to amazon.com.

What makes Saturday, December 19th so special then?

For my posts for today only, any person who comments on my posts will have an extra entry into the chance to win my gift certificate. In addition, and again this applies only to comments on my posts today at the TRS Party Site, you will have a chance to win an ebook of your choice from my backlist. (Please note that both winners will be chosen at the close of the TRS Christmas Party)

So stop on by, don't be shy.

All you have to do is click on my name (located down on the right hand sidebar of the TRS Party Page) to see my posts for today. My posts start in the seven o'clock hour and are scattered throughout the day. Comment, and you're in!

Thank you for all your love and support.

As an author, I write not only for my sanity, but for your enjoyment. And especially through the stressful holidays, my greatest wish is that my stories will bring satisfaction your way and soothe those bumpy days away.

Rec thrives on command. Lacy, chaos. When the two come together, they burn bright as the North Star...

Reckless, known only as Mr. Rec, is an Elf known for following the rules and toeing the line. He has a rocky past, and order ensures him a safe and secure future. That is, until he steps in as the department head in the Otherworld Weapons Gift Department in the North Pole and meets an Elf who threatens to push all his boundaries.

Lacy loves her job as a leather crafter. The day Mr. Rec comes in to take over, however, is the day her world starts falling apart. How can she want the very Elf who makes her madder than hell?

One thrives on command. The other, chaos. When the two come together, will they burn bright like the North Star, or will their spark burn out before Christmas morn?

Excerpt:
"Hi, Mr. Rec. Didn't think we'd see you here tonight."

Rec nodded and sat down at the bar next to one of his hard-working employees. "Hi, Noysen. I know I said I'd pass on the Christmas party, but... let's say I changed my mind." If coming here because Santa ordered him to do so could be called changing his mind. He'd much rather be at home, planning how he'd get a certain little Elf over to his place.

"Glad to hear it, even if our department don't celebrate quite like those Elves who make presents for humans," Noysen commented.

"I'm seeing that." Rec took in the darkened, oversized convention room, the loud music and questionable-in-public cries and moans. Contrary to what his employees must think, the atmosphere didn't make him uncomfortable. It brought back memories.

Noysen chuckled and hefted an oversized mug of ale. "Santa -- he knows his Elves, ya know? Take our department. We make weapons for aliens and demons alike. With the kind of shit we see, you think we'd want to sit around fancy decorated tables and sip eggnog for fun?"

Rec barked out an unexpected laugh as the picture formed in his head. "You have that right. It'd be like imagining one of those Elves coming here."

"That's why we're surprised you're here, Mr. Rec," Hoyden, another employee, interjected from two seats down.

Rec signaled for an ale. "How do you mean?"

"You're a manager, don't get me wrong. Our weapons department is running smoother than Iliaran oil right now. But I've always seen you as one of those fancy types."

Rec twitched his lips. "I suppose you have a point. I don't mind those gatherings; I've been attending them for years." He sipped his ale and debated before adding, "In my younger days, I saw my share of back-alley fun. Besides, I like to kick back and relax as much as the next Elf."

The Elves grunted their agreement and drank their ales.

After a few minutes, Hoyden cut his eyes at Rec. "There's some awfully pretty Tipped Ears here tonight. Many are from The Leanings."

Rec gave a short nod and a tight smile. He understood perfectly what Hoyden referred to. The Tipped Ears would be the pretty female Elves, and from The Leanings meant they were from the outskirts of the North Pole. Rec knew about Santa's arrangement from when he was a wee little Elf and living in The Leanings himself. Not that many others knew about his past, but Rec remembered how excited all those Elves became this time of year. If invited, they could come to these parties and work -- in a wide variety and loose definition of services -- and be compensated enough to get them through the rest of the harsh winter.

"There sure are, Mr. Hoyden," Rec answered. "If you find yourself with one, remember to be respectful and very appreciative."

Rec bid the Elves a Merry Christmas, snagged his drink and made his way around the room. He stopped every once in a while to say hi or to wish another a good season. He bypassed the shady corners where the pretty Tipped Ears were earning their wages, and he politely declined several intimate offers from others. Any other time he might have given in to temptation to ease her comfort and his -- as well as pad her pretty pockets with coin -- but for the past month one Elf in particular had taken over his every waking thought.

Lacy. A svelte little Elf with the longest, pointiest ears he'd ever known. She had a pert nose, slanted eyes and full lips that had him mesmerized the last time he'd seen her snacking on a peppermint stick. Her hands were gifts all in themselves, being able to craft a piece of demon leather like he'd never seen.

But she could be a rabble-rouser and a prankster, and when he came into the department and started setting things right, she'd balked. She'd even tried to tell him what to do. He'd let her know fast he didn't appreciate that treatment.

But more than that had been his growing desire for her. Even though there were no steadfast rules on relationships between co-workers, Rec had always kept his business and pleasure separate. His desire for Lacy had grown to the point that in their last confrontation, he'd broken out in a sweat to keep from hauling her pert little ass up against the wall and fucking her into obedience. Knowing he'd been at a breaking point, he'd asked -- no, he'd begged -- Santa to reassign her. He'd gotten his wish, and he'd not seen one black, purple-tipped hair of the little Elf in nearly two weeks. It should have calmed him down. Instead, not seeing her every day drove him nuts.

Another pretty Tipped Ear approached him, and when he turned her down, she huffed and stomped off. Kinda reminded him of Lacy and made his cock stir.

Again he thought about how Lacy had stood on her little tiptoes and shouted in his face when he told her she'd been reassigned. A tight smile crossed his lips. She was still pissed. He knew because for the past week, she'd left reminders on his doorstep in the form of sculpted miniatures depicting his death at the hands of various demons and Otherworlders. She never left her name, but he knew her exquisite craftsmanship anywhere.

"One more and those pants will have to go!"

Rec turned toward the hoarse shout at the back corner of the room. He asked an Elf at the back of the crowd, "What's going on?"

The Elf chuckled. "That's the dart area. A sexy pointy ear decided she wanted to play strip-darts."

Rec smiled. "I bet those Elves are getting an eyeful. I hope they pay her handsomely."

The other Elf laughed outright. "So you'd think. She's good. I've never seen a female play so perfectly. I don't think she's lost more than her shoes."

"You're kidding."

"No. And she's drunk off her ass, too. Must be. She keeps ordering double rounds of Sens-poison. I've never known any Elf to handle more than one shot before he goes under."

Rec chuckled. "I have to check this out."

He studied the tightly knit group. He couldn't quite see over the crowd, but he did spy a dart sailing through the air and heard the solid thunk as it landed, quickly followed by chortles and wolf-whistles. Maybe they finally got something more than a shoe off her. Still, he was intrigued. He'd been one hell of a dart player in his day, and to find another supposedly that good would be a treat.

"That's it, baby. All the way off. Let me get an eyeful of those heavy Christmas balls."

The low, seductive voice stopped Rec as he worked his way through the crowd. "Could that be..." He muttered the words to himself. "No, not Lacy."

"Aw yeah, nice and heavy. I like your cock too. Go to the left with the others. C'mon guys. I need one more."

Rec broke through to the front of the crowd and stopped in shock. There stood Lacy, all right -- completely clothed minus one shoe, front and center of the dartboard. To the left, against the wall, stood four very naked, very aroused Elves. Each sporting goofy grins.

"What's going on?" he growled to the Elf to his left.

"What? Oh, she's daring the guys to play strip-darts. Every guy she beats has to stand over there and wait until she's finished for the night. Then she gets to do anything she wants to them."

Even as Rec seethed over the stupidity of this game, he also warred with jealousy.

"Ooh, aren't you a sexy one," Lacy commented loudly and sauntered over to a stick-thin Elf.

"And what if she loses?" Rec asked.

He laughed. "I don't think that'll happen. She's hitting bull's-eyes every time."

"What happens if she loses?" Rec repeated with a snarl.

"Easy. If she loses, she said the winner could do anything they wanted to her."

"That's what I thought," Rec murmured. If there was one thing he knew about the boundary-pushing female, it was that she was fair. A plan quickly formed in his mind. He wouldn't take advantage of her if she were truly inebriated, but the thought of having her to himself caused his cock to go rock hard.

Meanwhile, Lacy petted the skinny Elf and made a few comments that had the boy blushing.

Rec had had enough. He stepped forward and in a loud voice announced, "I'm in."

Christmas in March?

Sure, why not!

I've taken a little break lately, but am getting back in gear with my writing. In doing so, I like to check out what's going on that I might have missed. A biggie it seems. My last Christmas novella with Changeling Press, Red Velvet Christmas: Hearth and Home, received 4.5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies! How sweet is that?

The reviewer, Chrissy, says, "Ayla Ruse’s HEARTH AND HOME is so reminiscent of what many human women face – the unending battle between career and home – that it brought a smile to my face just imagining Nikki’s frustration, especially in light of being paired up with two virile men."

Check out the full review, then find out more about this lively menage of a Christmas tale. It's available everywhere fine ebooks are sold; the links are at the bottom of this post. Because, hey, who says you can only celebrate the holiday in December, right? ;-)

Hearth and Home

Red Velvet Christmas
by Ayla Ruse

Genre/Theme: Christmas, menage (m/f/m), novella, erotic romance, elves

What’s an elf to do when she finds herself between Hearth and Home?

Santa strives for peace and harmony, not only on Earth, but in the Otherworlds as well. This year proves that peacekeeping is no easy task. First, he has an unhappy elf on his hands. Nikki runs one of his gift departments, but the corporate world is not making her happy. She wants a husband and her current elf pickings are slim. Second, Santa’s received a request from two of Bindoal Dimension’s most prominent males…Kobol Home and Braun Hearth need a wife. Santa’s easy solution? Put the three together and let them find a happily ever after.

For Nikki, Kobol and Braun, however, Santa’s gift comes with unexpected surprises. Nikki believes this is a one-night stand. Braun does not care for elves, and Kobol’s afraid Nikki will want to return to the corporate world.

Even though sparks ignite between the three, will this be enough for them to create a happily ever after, or will their expectations make for a regrettable Christmas Eve?

Excerpt:

Nikki stirred the zigzag straw through her drink, mesmerized by the swirling colors. She sipped, trying to catch the sparkly green bits. Those were the sweetest and she loved the way they popped on her tongue. Elven bars should serve something this delicious.

"Want another, sweetie?"

Without removing her lips from the straw, Nikki glanced at the bartender. He was handsome, she supposed, for an Otherworlder. His four arms mixed drinks as he spoke, and she briefly wondered what it'd be like to make love to a being with four arms. He could touch her everywhere.

But could he handle a house full of kids? And would she like their father working in bars every night?

She shook her head no, both to the bartender and in answer to her silent questions, and sipped her drink.

The party was growing louder and even sitting at the bar, she was bumped and pushed. She wanted to leave but couldn't.

Santa knew her secret desire for a husband, but as an elf, he also knew their libidos ran high. She'd become depressed recently, and Santa had noticed. He'd said this invite tonight would satisfy her, with no one at the North Pole the wiser.

In the past, she'd had her share of affairs, but affairs did not lead to matrimony. As well, in her position as CEO of the Otherworlders Gift Department, other elves were not willing to become attached to her. In fact, she'd not had a good bout of sexual release since the summer slump. So, Santa had sent her the Otherworlder Christmas Party invite for a night of sex with these instructions: Wear red and cover her ears -- as elves typically weren't allowed at this gathering.

Another drink was set before her, and she realized hers had gone empty. The bartender had fixed her another after all. She mustered up a grin in thanks then guiltily ducked down to the new drink. Instead of drinking all this Otherworlder alcohol, she should look for the male from the Bindoal Dimension Santa had set her up with.

In all honesty, she figured he'd hope she'd get laid fifty ways to Sunday and would tear up the letter of resignation sitting on her desk. Fat chance. She wanted more than a high-level career. She wanted a husband and lots of little elf children. Maybe if she traveled, she could see what other elves there were in the world and find someone special to settle down with.

So why did I come here tonight? She sighed with her internal answer. To get laid.

Despite her longing for a family, her neglected sex drive was desperate. It'd been too many months to count since she'd been with another, and Santa's invite, even though it wouldn't give her the husband she wanted, should at least make her body happy. Too bad, she thought for the umpteenth time, Santa couldn't have given her the husband she wanted.

She glanced around the bar, not for the first time, and tugged on the velvet bow in her hair, making sure her ear tips were covered. Between the dark hair she'd let loose and the obnoxious red bow, she doubted anyone would call her out. Still, she knew to err on the side of caution.

"You're wearing red."

The voice came from behind and to the left of her, and a delicious tingle ran up her spine at the deep timbre. She sat up straight on her raised bar stool, turned his way and still had to tilt her head up to see the speaker.
He appeared human. He was taller and thicker than any elf she knew, and scruffier looking as well. She shivered under his piercing gaze. Strong and sexy, he might make a good husband, but she was undecided as to his fatherly capabilities.

Then she remembered how he'd addressed her.

"Yes, my dress is red," she answered while wondering if the man was color blind.

"I'm sorry for my friend," another voice said from her right. His breath smelled sweet, like a warm sugar cookie, and he had to lean close to be heard over the demon band that had started playing. She turned to see another human-looking man. This one, though, seemed more clean-cut.

Maybe this was the man she was to meet? He was quite sexy.

She gave him a quick study and decided he'd make a handsome husband. He seemed nice enough, at first appearance, and would probably make a good father.

He grinned down at her and she shook her head. What was wrong with her? She was here for sex, but habit had her looking at every man she spoke to as a potential mate. Jeesh.

"It's okay," she yelled back. "Are you from Bindoal?"

He leaned even closer, his lips against the material covering her ears. "Yes. And Santa sent you, right?"

Did you get a Kindle for Christmas?

Yay! Lucky you! I personally own a Kindle and love it. Of course, I think it's also evil incarnate in how freakin' easy it is to buy books. Just wait...you'll see.

It goes like this...

You browse amazon, you may start off with a sample chapter here and there. Then you get sucked in. You want more. You HAVE to have more. And you do it. You hit the "Buy" button. It's so easy. No harm, no foul. And you, snuggled in your pj's, sipping spiked hot cider, can instantly read your brand new book.

Heck, what am I saying? It's ingenious! I love it!!

To get you started, why not visit my Amazon Author page where you can look at all the books I have for sale on this wonderful site. Take your time, read a sample or two, then get hooked. It's not hard at all to do.

Have fun and drop me a line to share your slide into darkness...erm, I mean, uplifting tales of how great the Kindle has made your life! *grin*

Theme Day from the Red Velvets!

Welcome to another wonderful Monday. Start your day off right by seeing just how some of the great story ideas for the Red Velvet Christmas stories came about...

Red Velvet Christmas: Ribbons and Lace
by Anne Kane

All he wants for Christmas is a sexy little elf!

When Leonardo Delgado fell in love with a woman who was already engaged, he resigned himself to loving her from afar. But when her fiancée ran off with another woman, he knew exactly what he wanted to make his Christmas Merry!

Amanda-Lyn doesn’t believe in love any more. She takes a job as  an elf at the local mall, and starts to rebuild her life. A nice one-night stand without all that romantic nonsense is all she wants this holiday season. It might have worked, too, except for her sinfully handsome boss and a jolly old matching-making man in a red suit and cap.

How I used the theme in Ribbons and Lace:

Red Velvet  features prominently in so many Christmas decorations, and in my story I used the cheerful theme to deck the heroine in an elf outfit, complete with ribbons and lace! Amanda-Lyn manages to land a job as Santa’s elf for the holiday season. How could the sexy mall manager resist her velvet clad hotness?

Thanks, Anne Kane

Red Velvet Christmas: Merry Mate
by B.J. McCall

What would you do to find your one true love?

A red velvet Santa's hat that only fits one's true love? Sierra doesn't believe in magic, but she's willing to give it a try and find her merry mate.

Banning is in love with Sierra, but the werewolves of Elk Mountain stick to their own kind. Banning would do anything to spend time with the beautiful she-wolf and he's more than willing to try on a Santa's hat to please her.

Humans are off limits, but what's a wolf to do when the hat is a perfect fit?

How I came up with my theme:

The name of the series evoked such wonderful images like red velvet cake, red ribbons, crimson ropes and Santa dressed in a luxurious red velvet suit. A Santa suit didn’t fit my hunky human hero, but a red velvet Santa hat trimmed in dark fur was perfect for my cowboy hero, Banning Hayes. I loved the image of Banning removing his favorite hat and putting on the red Santa hat just to please my werewolf heroine.

Thanks, BJ McCall

Red Velvet Christmas: Ribboned
by Megan Slayer

Ribbons aren’t just for decorating anymore.

Daria Elf never expected to be moved to the velvet ribbon department right before Christmas. She also never expected her boss to be the object of her wettest fantasies. Can she keep her cool, or will she end up on Raven's Naughty List?

Raven Elf has his sights set on Daria. He wants her for his department, his bed and bound in his thick velvet ribbons. He'll get his girl, but the hard part is convincing her that their connection is meant to last.

How I used my theme:

Red velvet was very important in my story because it’s where the hero and heroine have work—the ribbon room! They get to make the pretty bows for the packages and the wreaths. But Raven, the hero, isn’t interested in using the ribbon just for presents—he’s going to use the ribbon on Daria, the elf and his assistant. I’d seen pictures of people using red ribbon for BDSM play and knew that’s what Raven would want to do, too. So red velvet is incorporated in the BDSM scene for Daria and Raven.

Thanks, Megan Slayer

Red Velvet Christmas: Yet To Come
by Zenobia Renquist

He's so bad and so good for her at the same time.

Rae is a ghost of Christmas future. Her track record for making people see and turn to the light is unblemished, except for one man. Zane has hit her list for the third and final time. The incentive he wants to be good is one she refuses to give him. Rae cannot be with a man who allies so easily with bad, but her desire demands she not be without him. At sunrise Christmas morning, her powers fade and with them any chance she has of seeing Zane again unless he can convince her the best is yet to come.

How I used Red Velvet:
Each of the Ghosts of Christmas (past, present and future) has a cloak they wear that helps them do their jobs. Rae’s is red velvet. When I heard the theme for this year, I automatically knew it would be a cloak.

Thanks, Zenobia

Red Velvet Christmas: Hearth and Home

How I used my theme:
When I thought Red Velvet, bows immediately came to my mind. And what do bows usually go around? A present, of course. This idea, combined with my desire to continue to use one of Santa's dedicated elves, spurred me to create this story. Why not have Nikki in red velvet, which the men have to unwrap, in order to receive their present?

Thanks, Ayla
